5 Tips to Stay Active During the Holidays

The holidays are here! It is a time for family, food, and fun, but it is also a season when staying active can feel challenging. With all the celebrations, it’s easy to fall into a cozy routine and skip your daily exercise. But don’t worry—we’ve got simple tips to keep you moving this holiday season!
- Turn holiday traditions into active ones. Make movement part of the celebration, whether playing a friendly game of football, walking with a group walk to view decorations, or even dancing to your favorite holiday tunes. This will add a new level of fun to your holidays.
- Go outside and work in your yard if reasonable for you. Enjoy the sunlight and crisp winter air. This is a great way to support activating vitamin D in your body.
- Sneak in short bursts of movement during your daily routine. For example, take a walk while talking on the phone or do leg lifts while watching TV. Remember, staying active doesn’t always require a major time commitment. Go old-school and play hopscotch or kickball, making it a family or neighborhood affair. These simple activities can make a significant difference. Every movement counts toward your health and well-being.
- Don’t underestimate the power of walking. It’s a simple yet effective way to stay active, whether you’re just starting your fitness journey or have been active for years. Walk at your own pace and take breaks if necessary. Find a safe area to walk in, get up, and get moving!
- If movement is challenging, try following along with a walking or movement workout video while sitting. Try searching YouTube for a video that works for you! You can do this in the comfort of your home with no equipment.
