VERONA – Practical and convenient advice awaits north Mississippi fruit and vegetable growers at an upcoming meeting.

Two days of seminars and activities are planned for the North Mississippi Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association Conference and Trade Show Feb. 6-7 in the Magnolia Building at the Lee County Agri-Center, located at 5395 Highway 145 in Verona.

“We want to make it easy for growers to attend an educational meeting by hosting one in their area,” said Jeff Wilson, regional horticulture specialist with the Mississippi State University Extension Service. “This conference will offer something for everyone.”

Topics on the agenda include honeybees, business management, wildlife enterprises, greenhouse tomatoes, fruit crops, vegetable variety selection, and control of insects, diseases and weeds. MSU scientists with the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station will provide updates on their research.

Doors open at 8 a.m. the first day, and sessions conclude around 5 p.m. The second day offers growers two options. One is the regular session beginning at 9 a.m., which will address research, bees and outdoor demonstrations. The other option is the Farm-to-School/Mississippi Market Ready Program beginning at 8:30 a.m. Both options conclude around 2 p.m.

Lunches are provided each day, so preregistration will help organizers make arrangements. For more information or to preregister, contact a county Extension office.
